Companion Horses

horse5Today’s world can be a scary place for any horse who can no longer be ridden or perform due to age or injury.  Losing competence can mean a quick trip to the slaughter house, a frightening and cruel way for sensitive equines to die.

To educate the public about this horrible industry, DreamCatcher takes in aged and/or injured and retired domestic horses and in fact the majority of our domestic horses were saved right out of the slaughter feed lot.  We have Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Quarter horses, paints, saddlebreds, Paso Finos and warmbloods.  Some raced, some where show horses, carried cowboys as they worked a ranch, others were jumpers, performed dressage or were someone’s family pet.  Nearly all of them ended up one step away from slaughter.

Regardless of their background, breed or age, once a horse arrives here they are matched up with horses having similar limitations or age and are encouraged to enjoy just being a horse.  Unless severely injured or ill, no horse is kept in a stall or small paddock.  All horses are allowed to wander the property and have free access to our open-concept barn.  The aged horses receive special care and senior feed.

We do have a few select domestic horses available for adoption, primarily registered Quarter horses under the age of 4.  Some have been started.
